What is Science Olympiad?
Science Olympiad incorporates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in 28 standards-aligned events. Each Science Olympiad event helps students develop 21st-century skills essential in today’s STEM fields as they apply and display a variety of talents, such as designing and prototyping, technical writing, chemistry lab skills, and exhibiting in-depth life, earth & space scientific knowledge. Students on each team pair up to tackle the 23 national events and 5 trial events in competitions that encourage collaboration, teamwork, and cross-curricular training.
What does it take to be a Jordan Member?

Members will be a part of one of two teams: The Gold and Black Team

Each team consists of 15 main members and 2 alternates on standby​

Meetings take place Mondays and Thursdays until 3:45

Students are expected to compete at tournaments around the State

Students may even have the opportunity to compete out of State at Nationals or tournaments like MIT​

Team members represent Jordan as both a competitor and student
How can I join the team next year?
Tryouts for the 2026-2027 Jordan Science Olympiad Team will be held on Wednesday, April 22 and Friday, May 1 in the Jordan High School small cafeteria. To sign up for tryouts, fill out this Google form before March 20. Make sure you are signed into a non-KatyISD email when completing the form. ​

You will be given the option to take between 1-4 tests in the categories of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science. Each test will be 40 minutes long, and you will be allowed 1 page of notes (front and back) for each test.

Day 1 (April 22):

Biology 4:40 PM (Anatomy and Physiology (Respiratory, Digestive, Immune), Designer Genes, Disease Detectives, Ecology)

Earth Science 5:30 PM (Dynamic Planet, Rocks & Minerals, Remote Sensing/Geomapping, Water Quality)
Day 2 (May 1):

Chemistry 4:40 PM (Chemistry Lab, Forensics)

Physics 5:30 PM (Machines, Circuit Lab, Astronomy)

You will be evaluated based on your test scores. By choosing one event, you can specialize and stand out by scoring higher. If you choose multiple events, you can stand out by showing generalized competency. Your placement on the team will be evaluated holistically. We will take your grade level and course history into consideration. Within a few weeks after the tryouts exam, we may reach out for an interview.
